Bongo Love

Bongo Love features dynamic percussionist and lead vocalist, John

Mambira alongside brother Mpho Mambira on marimba, with Trymore Jombo on mbira.  From the southern city of Bulawayo, Bongo Love sings in

Ndebele, Shona, and English.  Their unique musical style, dubbed

“Afrocoustics”, is inspired by the band’s broad musical tastes,

ranging from the South African music popular in Bulawayo’s township,

to traditional Zimbabwean rhythms, drawing especially on the drumming

and dance genre known as mhande.

Bongo Love has toured in the United States, Mozambique, Sweden and the

Dominican Republic.  Among the highlights of their international

appearances, they have opened for Ladysmith Black Mambazo, toured with

indie rock band “State Radio,” led by Chad Stokes, and played a

sold-out show at Madison Square Gardens alongside the band Dispatch.
