Exciting new talent Alexio Kawara is one of the pioneers of the

Zimbabwean style known as “urban grooves.”  From the streets of

Harare’s township of Glen Norah, he has risen to a level of fame

unmatched by his musical peers.  Alexio is a defining figure in urban

grooves, a dance genre which draws heavily upon American R&B,

combining catchy melodic riffs with lively electronic beats.  Working

with veteran Zimbabwean musicians and producers, Alexio was among the

first urban grooves musicians to introduce live instrumentation into

the genre, creating a distinctly Zimbabwean sound.  For his

contributions as an urban grooves artist, Alexio has won several

National Arts Merits Awards.  His hit song “Shaina” is one of the most

highly requested and frequently played songs on radio throughout

Zimbabwe.
